Dr. Murphy, MD, is a highly experienced internal medicine specialist with over 39 years of practice in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He obtained his Bachelor of Engineering summa cum laude from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee in 1979. Dr. Murphy continued his education at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, earning his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1983.

Following his medical school training, Dr. Murphy completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Alabama Medical Center in Birmingham from 1983 to 1986. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine and holds active medical licenses in Tennessee.

Dr. Murphy has been an integral part of the medical community in Murfreesboro for the past 35 years. He joined the Independent Practice Association (IPA) in 1995 and has served on the patient care committee for the last 25 years. Dr. Murphy has also been involved with the Accountable Care Organization (TP-ACO), enjoying the benefits, and contributing to its success.

Having recently retired in December 2023, Dr. Murphy now serves as a senior consultant for TPAC (Tennessee Physicians’ Advisory Committee). He is also on the chairman of the board of directors for Stones River IPA and continues to be actively involved in the patient care committee. Dr. Murphy’s extensive experience and expertise make him a respected figure in the medical field.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Murphy is a passionate Vanderbilt Commodores fan and enjoys watching basketball, especially his son’s team. He has a love for travel and has successfully visited all 50 states and their respective capitals. Dr. Murphy’s dedication to patient care, commitment to professional organizations, and personal interests reflect his well-rounded and compassionate approach to medicine.
